FETAL ASPHYXIAL

IUGR AND OLIGOHYDRAMNIOS
|
The association of chronic fetal compromise and oligohydramnios is well
recognized. Two clinical conditions are associated with a high incidence of
placental dysfunction leading to dysmaturity:
- Intrauterine growth
retardation (IUGR).
- The oligohydramnios
appears to be the result of the etiology and rate of progression of the
growth failure.
- The fetus with IUGR
unrelated to primary placental failure and mild dysmature IUGR are likely
to have normal amniotic fluid volume.
- The fetus with severe
dysmature IUGR or with decompensation of the usual fetal adaptive methods
will always have oligohydramnios.
- Postmaturity syndrome.
Oligohydramnios, which may be severe, is commonly seen in
both conditions.
